Good Good Good Good Good - Good

Fishing was slow in the AM and late afternoon. It was really, really good from about 1 till 2:30. Money flys were tungsten zebra midge, wd-50 olive size 22, san juan worms (red.) also caught a couple on size 22 juju beatis. I read reports of BWO's hatching in the early afternoon, but I saw nothing significant. Maybe a few bugs here and there. Fish were holding in the usual slow water near banks and in deep holes above. Conditions were sunny, breezy around 60 degrees. Water was nice and clear and 299 cfs seems a comfortable flow for this stretch. If you're not catching anything, change your depth and weight a few times before changing flys. -- Stephen Chittum

Full Report: Flows are holding steady at 357 cfs which is still fairly high and fast. The water clarity is off just a bit, but that actually has made fishing better. The river was stocked with rainbows this past week, so fishing has been excellent.

Latest Fishing Gossip

Pleasure Park Area Fishing Again

Just got off the phone with Al DeGrange of Gunnison River Expeditions. He reported that the inner gorge from Chukar to the Smith Fork is only slightly off color from the massive flash flood that went thru 6 days ago. He also reported that the Gunnison from Smith Fork down to Pleasure Park has about 3-4 feet of visibility and is clearing fast. Trips that went through yesterday had good results from the Smith Fork down. The North Fork itself is just slightly off color, so the lower Gunnison should be fishing well.
